Hemosum is a platform to foster research, education and business initiatives on global hemostasis tests for improving bleeding risk prediction and treatment for patients with a hereditary or acquired hemostatic disorder.

Our overall aim is to map the hemostatic balance of bleeding patients in an acute clinical setting by integrating innovative diagnostic tools and clinical parameters.

The Platform

The Hemosum platform consists of three general frameworks ‘research, education and business’ and three technological frameworks ‘viscoelastic testing, microfluidics, thrombin generation’. The choice for these technologies is driven by the long-standing expertise of Maastricht University and Medical Centre.

Our focus

Hemosum focuses on acute clinical situations with a need for fast assessment of the hemostatic balance to define a hemostatic cause or to monitor treatment: hereditary bleeding disorders, excessive bleeding in childbirth, acute bleeding in surgery and trauma, and bleeding during anti-coagulant treatment
